If I sit too close to the microwave oven will it cause me to have cancer?

My wife yells at me if i use the microwave oven that i will get cancer if i don't stand back a long ways..is this true/?

First of all, microwave ovens operate around 2450 megahertz. Radioactive (cancer causing) waves are considerably higher. Even if you climbed in to the oven, you would not get cancer. You would, however, get severe burns. You can park your keaster right next to the thing and cook to your heart's content resting in the knowledge that even if microwaves caused cancer, none are getting out of your oven.

Microwaves heat the food and normally take out the moisture if you have noticed. It is not possible to get cancer directly from standing infront of the microwave, however it does increase the chances and COULD also damage your brain.

lol so basically she is stopping you from cooking huh? i hear that pro-longed exposure to microwaves has been thought to cause cancer but when is the last time you heard of death by microwave lol but if you are really worried their are plenty of studies on the net that discuss this very topic :)

In the 80's when they first came we discovered they had radiation . Any models made after the eighties is fine but if its from the eighties you do have a risk.

Nooooo - they don't radiate outside of their shell - however, you can buy a little radiation detector to see if it leaks - it can leak radiation if there is a fault in the casing. But it would take that - a fault in it. When functioning normally they do not radiate outside at all.
