I KNOW that MOST Muslims women are not forced to wear hijab. If they are ever forced, it is by overbearing parents or a controlling husband, in which case, the people forcing them are not practicing Islam properly.
I know this to be true because I am married to a Muslim man and living in his country. His mother and one of his sisters cover, but his other sister chooses not to. I also choose not to, and I am under no pressure to do so.

Most Muslims girls who do wear the hijab, at least in the West, choose to wear the hijab (head-scarf), but most do not choose to wear the veil (niqab).
There are patriarchal families in the Middle East that force women to wear the veil, but that is a cultural thing and has nothing to do with Islam. Since the Qur'an says "Let there be no compulsion in religion", Islam does not force the wearing of the veil.

I'm a muslim woman and I was never once forced to wear it. I had the opposite problem. My husband and his family thought that veiling was about the heart and your intentions. His father encouraged me to just dress like the nice young woman I am. In Pakistan, they are not forced to cover up. That's one of few things, though. The style at the moment is very tight fitting clothing (I know, I had to fight tooth and nail to get mine loosened because I'm not in to showing off my body). With the way they are making the clothing now, you don't even need to wear a bra because it's so tight!!! Anyway, I have never met anyone who was forced into it. If you see my sisters in law and I in the store, you will see three very different ways of dressing. One wears the traditional salwar kameez with the dupatta, the other wears a nice shirt and jeans, and depending on how I feel, the full hijab with face cover or just my coat with a nice outfit that includes a skirt.
Over in Saudi Arabia, I know they are forced to wear hijab, but not in Kuwait or anywhere else that I've been to.

Depends on the country the woman is in and how literally the husband/ father of the girl reads the Koran.
I used to live in Turkey and many woman there didn't even wear a head covering, much less a veil.
I read about a case that happened in Afghanistan before The president weakened the Taliban, of a woman who accidentally showed off a bit of her wrist, and she was stoned to death in the middle of the street, some of the participants in the stoning were her own family members. Her own father and brothers killed her for just showing of her wrist! And no punishment was ever carried out toward them!
The rules can also vary from household to household. The Koran allows husbands to beat their wives if the wife disobeys them. So someone who takes the Koran literally instead of figuratively they will force their wives to wear one no matter what the country they live in says. The defenders of Islam say it is a soft beating kind of like being beat with a wet noodle, but beating someone with a wet noodle is pointless, so if that is what the Koran meant it was a waste of what was then valuable ink.
But some woman may choose to wear a veil.
Also girls who haven't yet experienced puberty do not have to wear the veil no matter where they live.

I don't think it is forced on them, I think it's a cultural thing for most of them. I have to admit, seeing a woman in a veil makes me curious to find out what's under it.

It is their religion doctrines that forced them to wear it, a pure discrimination practice against the women, It originated in the old tribal society long before the the birth of Mohammad, and in Mohammad time, he put it down in writing as an unquestionable law which cannot be ruled out no matter how advanced and civilised your world is. In short, they are unflexible, unadaptable and will be seen as outcast by few because they openly show it to you that they don't want to mix with you and thus put the veil to indicate its meaning. To let you know that they don't want to attract unwanted attention from any stranger as if every one want to rape them (or as if any man who want to talk or want to see a veiled woman has the intention to rape her). They will even listed out many, many number of beauty queens in the whole world who has been molested to prove their point
It started from the ancient tribal culture but has become a religious doctrine wrongly implemented.

More than being forced to weak hijab, I think they are indoctrinated to *want* to wear one. I actually think few are *forced* to.
Here's something far worse that world should be thinking about: "honour" killings. What do muslim women think about that?

Probably because Muslim girls are killed by their family if they are raped or if their families even THINK they have not been faithful.
Now granted, I would be naive to think ALL Muslim girls are forced to wear a hijab, but I would be equally naive if I thought that NO Muslim girls were forced to wear it.
