In the cold, yes, .... in BITTER cold, no. No domestic animal is bred for the bitter cold or extremely hot elements. Although cats can usually find a warm place to hide when it's just cold outside, ... when it drop to freezing, they really should be inside your home where it's safe. Their ears, and feet can suffer from frostbite just like ours can. Plus,...it's dangerous out there for a cat... fast moving cars, stray dogs, fleas, etc. Keep kitty inside, clean, warm, and dry, and you'll have a happier, healthier cat.

Maybe the outdoors in novel to him and he enjoys it. I moved from an apartment (they were allowed outside) to my parent's house where my cats had fields and barns to explore. They loved it. Now I have other cats (I moved again, and my parents decided to keep my first cats because the cats were happy there) and new my pets are indoor/outdoor. They spend most of the time outdoors but don't go too far. Anyway, they still like to come in for a cuddle. They are neutered and I guess, without the drive to hunt for a mate, they don't have a reason to be out and about.

I'd set up a place where the cat hangs out that would be like a cat house in case it gets cold while you are at work. Either access to a shed or a box with a towel in it. If it's during the evening/night then the car could climb into your car engine area for warmth and that wouldn't be good for you or the cat.

There are many wild cats where I live and they stay outside in the cold, but our cold here is 50 degrees in Florida. The news always suggests to take your pets inside when a cold front is approaching, I don't know where you live but I put blankets outside if it gets to 50 so bring your cats in the house or garage.

My friend lives on a farm, and there cats stay out in the cold, but they sleep in the warm barn at night. Cats can be out in the cold for a bit.

I have a cat door and my cat comes and goes as she wants. I live in Canada so it can get pretty cold. But I only let her out if it is above -15, otherwise I lock the kitty door. She comes and goes and is happy. she ONLY likes to pee outside. we got her as a stray and I think she's semi-feral. But she's used to it. she's tough as nails and a primo hunter (murderella, my husband calls her). if your cat is not used to going outside i don't recommend keeping her out all day. you have to go slowly. go out with her for bits at a time. she should have access to warm shelter throughout the day too. She shouldn't be outside all day long. It's hard on them.

Good luck

If its an indoor cat that will be bad but if the cat is used to be outide in any type of climate then there is a change of not getting ill.

Cats love the outdoors. they can easily find a nice place to sleep overnight. If you have a normally indoor cat it is ok for them to stay outside a night or two but I would definately try to check on them every now and then.

I have two outdoor kittens on my Dad's farm and they are fine. They love to cuddle up in little piles of hay and straw and cuddle with each other they get a lot of warmth from each other, humans, and their thick fur coats. If you leave you kittens out when the weather is slowly changing to winter they will naturally grow a thicker coat and adjust to colder weather.

Most cats will find a warm place to go and look at all the stray cats that stay outside all the time!
