Steaks aren't supposed to be cooked in oil because it already has a lot of fat in it. All you need to do is brush it with a little olive oil (so it doesn't stick to the grill or pan), season it with salt and pepper then leave it on the grill one side at a time.

Cook it on the BBQ grill. Just remember the most important thing - do NOT pierce steak with a fork, only turn it with a pair of tongs so none of the juices come out. Let it rest about 5 - 10 minutes before cutting too....

You need a certain amount of fat to bring out the flavour of steak. Just use a minimum amount of whatever you prefer, oil or butter, or even cooking spray.
Or you could try marinading the steak, and then just grilling it or pan frying it in the residual fat from the marinade.

Grilling and broiling are good.......You can use nonstick sprays (spray olive oil is like 5 calories a spray) just watch the steak.....you can also put a little bit of water in the pan and cook it in water (I make really thick cheeseburgers that way and they turn out great).

For stove top grilling, we invested in a non-stick grill pan about a year ago and it works great.
For outdoor grilling, you may find the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com helpful. Enter the cut of meat, thickness, desired doneness, etc. and it will provide specific instructions to get excellent results. There are also grilling tips from the home page.

you should brush on canola oil , it keeps the steak from drying out . But if you are set on NO oil then get that Micro wave paper that browns you know like that hot pocket sleeve thing. and nuke it. but it isnt the same as Pan frying or grilling.
