We have two cats. Both are indoors 100% of the time. Thus, they are not exposed to other animals. I feel like it's probably got a cold and the eye will clear up over time. Or, maybe it wrestled the other cat and got it scratched. The only thing with that is they are declawed and there are no signs of a scratch per se. I'm apprehensive of taking him to the vet unless it might be something bad. I know that sounds wierd, but since they don't ever leave the house, they are pretty safe from other stuff they could very likely get at the vet, i.e. fleas or some infectious disease. Just looking for feedback to help me decide what to do. Thanks.

I once had the same problem and asked this question and I was told to go to the vet immediatly. Apparently- cats (even indoor ones) are prone to a very serious eye infection that if not treated can cause the eyeball to burst. I know this sounds extreme- but I freaked out and took my "son" to the vet and sure enough- the vet confirmed this. It is not contagious so your other cat should be fine. But they had to put one of the cones over my cats head that he had to wear for a few days. That really freaked my other cat out.
I'm not saying that your cat has this- but better to be safe than sorry- I know this is not uncommon
Ya- don't delay- go to the vet. And good luck putting in the eyedrops the vet will give you LOL

Just because your cats are indoors doesn't mean they can't get sick...while it is 1 million times safer inside they can still get infections.
The cat needs to be seen by a Vet.
A watery eye can be a sign of a number of things...an upper respitory infection which needs to be treated by a Vet before it turns to phenomina.
Or your cats may have been exposed to the Feline Herpes Virus as kittens...most kittens are some become immune while others don't.
Two of our four indoor only cats have the virus and we never know it until they started to show symptoms....one had an outbreak at 4 years old and the other had one at 6 years old...we've had them since they were 6 weeks old....and they had NEVER been sick before.
They can live long happy lives with that virus but you have to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't develop any respitory infections...they tend to be worse in cats with the virus.
Once they have it they never get rid of it, but they can go years between outbreaks...one has only had 2 outbreaks in almost 7 years and the other only ever had one in 7 years.
So please don't hold off any longer, take the cat to the Vet.
I'm sure there are a million typos in this, but once again the spell check on here isn't working!

Take him to the vet! My cat had a similar problem. Because it was only one eye, I figured it was a scratch or infection (usually with a cold, both eyes will be affected, though not always). After nearly a week of antibiotics and the eye being worse, he was rechecked and discovered to have a cancerous tumor near the tear duct. Please do not waste precious time for treatment if this is something serious. Make an appointment now!

It sounds like a cold in the eye, keep it clean, I would wait to see if it clears itself, there are many wild cats outside where I live and I've seen this sometimes in them, they don't have anyone taking care of them and it usually clears up by itself. If you don't see improvement each day, then take your cat to the vet, or call the vet now although they want you to come in so they can get that office fee.

As a cat owner and all around pet lover, I would have your cat checked out by the vet.
The eye is a wonderful place for infections to grow because of the moist surface. And they can grow fast.
It is possible that it was scratched as you suggested. But because of the possibility of infection, definitely have the vet check it out.
Even though they are house cats, they could have picked up some infection from just about any surface.

Depends how long it has been going on, if it has been a day our two, I'd wait. But if it's been a week or two, it needs to be addressed. I'm no vet and it is impossible, if there was a vet to answer your question over the net, to diagnose without seeing what's going on. you will probably have to go get it checked if it is not clearing up within a week.

Grass seeds can cause this type of injury and infection. The consensus of opinion is take it to the vet and stop guessing!
If you care for your animal why are you ignoring the problem?
If it was your eye would you still be writing to a forum while you were going blind by the minute?

It could be some sort of infection. I would take him to the vets to be on the safe side.
