If you go outside in the middle of the night, it's dead silent...no birds anywhere. But if you go outside in the middle of the day, there's tons of birds singing!

And don't say "It's because they're sleeping," cause that's BS!! Yea, maybe SOME of them are sleeping, but I'm sure there are some birds who are 'night owls' and don't like sleeping at night!!

Well, most birds are diurnal (active during daylight) so they do use the nighttime to sleep. However, even if they are awake they are not going to sing or chirp since it would alert nocturnal (night time) predators to their presence and make them easy targets!

Well you got that right partly, Night owls yeh they are around But the majority of birds roost at night. The cuckoo dove may continue to sound his call. But most chirping birds are resting and hiding from other night predators.
On moonlight nights it is quite possible to hear birds chirping. I keep several types of birds and they all chirp on moonlight nights but roost and remain silent on dark nights
Even the domesticated chicken puts itself to bed after sundown and only stirs at dawn The rooster can sometimes cock it up by crowing at the moon thinking the dawn has broken.

During the day, most of the chirping goes on because they are looking for partners to mate with, or they may be sending signals to other birds of their feather, that there is food near by. Others my give their call because they are in distress or danger from other predators. At night things are just more calm than they are at day time when they feed, build nesting places, mate and hunt.
