In the town where I live there are lots of pigeons. Most of them are in the center. Most of them look healthy. But there are some that I see in the students campus that eat from what they find near a fast food, that look quite bad. However, not all the pigeons in the campus look bad. Only this group. Their feders look oily and scattered. What illness might they have and how can they be cured?

The oiliness on the featers is caused by poor nutrition, I would suggest that after that observation the canteen has a lot to answer for. I would not eat there having observed that.

The only way to help these birds is to get their diet changed. They need more seed in their diet. Millet, wheat or oats etc. It may be that they are not able to fly far as well, the oiliness of the feathers would prevent air flow from being smooth so only short flight would be possible. This leaves them open to predation
