The "KNOT" swells and expands to hold the male in place while he does his deed. His penis expnds greatly and the knot is the biggest part.

The knot links them together holding his fluids inside her for 10 minutes or so. When they unhook it is because the swelling went down in the knot and he has went back to normal size.
