It's a US passport but I have perm residence here. Born in Cambridge but no UK passport. I seem to remember someone once saying that you need to have 6 months remaining on your passport to travel but is that only if you have no fixed return date?
Many thanks in anticipation for your help!

It depends on where you're going. Some governments require your passport be valid for 3 or 6 months after your dates of travel. This isn't a US requirement. You can check with the US State Dept for foreign entry requirements: http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/brochures/brochures_1229.html Check with the Embassy they list too... sometimes there is more information there.

I heard that too.
Check on some websites...
the embassies/consulates of the countries you want to visit, or maybe look for a US gov website and see if there's info for passport holders.

as long as you are back b4 the expiry date you can travel....however better safe than sorry who knows you might get stuck so if i was in your place i would renew it and it seems you have the time to do it so why not and just to confuse you a bit more there are embassies everywhere and they can renew you passport if you get stuck.....
