In Washington State, and possibly elsewhere, there is a cut-off selling time at 2 AM for alcohol. I am unsure why this is. I work graveyard and find myself on my days off desiring a nice cold beer under moonlight and even sunrise with my lunch or dinner. So why am I not allowed to buy beer (if I haven't any in my fridge already) at a certain window of time? It seems only to rouse anger and frustration.

Any clues to justify this law?

I work graves as well. Stopping and getting breakfast in the morning is a pain. I have to wait an hour plus sometimes in Oregon, so they can start selling liquor at 7 am. Society is based on a 9-5 M-F workweek. I think the cut off time at 2AM is so the drunks can make it home, into a tree or fence possibly a ditch, rather than screwing up the morning commute. As far as going out and keeping the graveyard schedule, I don't. I flip back to day shift, makes me feel more like a human being, and I actually get to enjoy the sun more, cause I stretch my 3 days off into 4 with a few extra naps here and there. A true alcoholic or connoisseur will always have enough beer, liquor and wine in the fridge to last a week or so. I have no problems with this. I'd much rather have other kids safe standing at the bus stop in the morning rather than trying to figure out if that guy is drunk and going to come up on the side walk. Oh, and here in Oregon where I live, the VFW and American Legion is even DRY! DAMN QUAKERS!

Serving Alcohol In Washington State

I live in Wisconsin and in my area stores cannot sell after 9:00pm and bars stop serving around 1:30 -2:00am. Of course you can buy at 8-9:00am. It is just the area you are in. Depending on how the laws were set up back in the day or if they have been restructured. There have been many attempts by businesses to get the law changed but the powers that be want to control the masses and the UW students.

a lot of alcohol laws are antiquated. In Georgia (and many southern states) you can't buy alcohol on Sundays in a package store (you can get it at restaurants). Also we have a cutoff, and I think it varies by day of the week - I think it's later on weekends.
I think it's an arbitrary time, probably based on some sort of fabricated statistic that says people are x% more likely to have drunk driving accidents after 3 am, or something. They are looking at the population at large. Working graveyard, you've surely come to realize that your schedule doesn't match a large part of the population.

That's much the way it is in Colorado.
You can't buy after 11:00 where I'm at and not on unday. Oh yea one way you can get beer on Sun. is at a grocery store & it's only 3.2% beer.
Each state has their own laws & each state has their own reasons for the laws.
You can go to the bar until 2:00A.M. That's when they shut down.
I'm not sure what the reasons are here.
Sorry.

welcome to the night shift but it is not socally accepted to drink booze at 6 am even if you did work the back shift. besides the booze selling folks would sell 90% of there product after 2 am to drunks that had enough any way. so thats why we shut er down at 2 am. besides we have to sleep too.
