My cat had kittens about 2 hours ago.

She doesn't seem to be bonding with all of her babies. She carried one away and looked like she was taking care of it...however she left the other three on their own. I really didn't want to move her or the kittens, because I know they need to bond...but I want her to bond and care for all four of them. So after waiting for ages, for her to go back to the others, I ended up putting them all together.

I'm really scared at the moment to turn my back on her with them as she seems to be biting them - and not in a nice way. (More like wanting to eat them!) Is this normal? Am I just being paranoid? Should I just leave her and see what happens? I'm totally clueless! PLEASE HELP!!!

my cat had kittens in sept. and then dieds 8 hours after having them, i got a fauster mother cat for her babies and she did the same thing. i found it best to lay her in your lap and babies to and pet her while she bonds with kittens, that might make her stay still to sit there. also to make sure that the babies are getting enough food you could go and get some kmr (kitten milk replacement) and feed them now and again with droppers that way they are for sure getting enough to eat. i also bought a foam bed from walmart and put a heating pad on the bottom on low heat and the mother seemed to like to lay in there. if she doenst bond with them they can still make it!! mine did! they are huge now. it can be scary when she bites at them but i just clap my hands and tell her no. try putting her in a smaller room that she cant get out of and cant hide well in like the bathroom that might make her bond easier. good luck...

I would take them to the vet. My cat did this and when I took her to the vet it turned out she was rejecting them because they were abnormal. Nothing you could see they appeared fine but their insides were not developed all the way and they couldn't digest food. Somehow instictivley she knew this and was saving her milk for the two kittens she knew would be able to make it. My vet told me this is normal all animals do it and especially cats since they retain so many non domestic qualities. Even dogs tend to push out the runt of the littler and make sure the strong ones eat first.

She may be stressed. try not to focus too much on her and let her do her own thing for the next day or two. If you are overly concerned, put her and babies in a cage with a litter box for mom, and fresh water. Be sure the water dish it tall so babies don't fall in. Mom won't need to eat much for the next day or so. Cover the cage with a big blanket or towel so mom can relax.

Hi

dont panic. My cat did the same thing to her kittens. How old is your cat? Labour and birth are quite stressing for a cat - who didnt choose to get into this situation anyway.

Do keep an eye on them though. If she doesnt start feeding them soon, you will have to go to the vets and get some advice on hand rearing them.

Thats not too scary - i hand reared one of mine!

good luck

She may be rejecting them. Give her time and if she still doesn't bond then you may need to start to mother the kittens yourself (you may need help from friends too if you're a busy person.) Consult you're vet by the phone for what you should do.
