Have you been living in a cave for the last two decades? The Japanese and others currently make and sell more cars in the U.S. than the former Big Three, G.M., Ford, and Chrysler. Chrysler is now Dailmler-Chrysler, joined with the people that make Mercedes Benz,. Ford makes more cars in Japan, Mexico and the UK than in the US and GM is barely holding on. Open the hood on most GM cars or trucks and you will find Nissan parts.

The US automakers have dug themselves a hole in terms of public perception. People think their cars are crap even if they aren't (and for the last 20-30 years, most of them have been). They have to overcome that.
They also have costs that other companies don't. They have more pensions to pay, since when retirees were working, they were bigger than they are now, while the opposite is the case for Toyota et al. They have to pay for health care for their workers, which is more expensive in the US than anywhere in the world. In most countries, health care is either paid for by the state or subsidized (like Canada), or there are numerous inexpensive private and public plans available (like Japan). This was actually a major reason that Toyota chose to build a plant in Ontario recently instead of Alabama. (The other one they cited...that a Toyota executive EXPLICITLY STATED was that Canadian workers were better educated...that they actually had to have pictorial manuals in Alabama.)
There are still more American cars sold in the US than import, BTW. (Especially if you include US-made foreign marques) Maybe not for long, but Ford has an excellent plan for the future (the US would get the European and possibly Australian models, which are for the most part superior to what they sell here now), GM has more interesting models in the pipeline, and Chrysler has been releasing almost nothing but appealing new cars for the last 3 years. (Though they still have shitty transmissions)

you're very a ways off in maximum of your assumptions. i'm additionally unsure precisely what you have become at. Ford and GM are surely growing to be astounding now and Ford is doing somewhat nicely. the eastern are dropping industry proportion astounding now. Toyota has lost plenty, and Honda has been suffering these days as nicely. Critics do no longer in basic terms like the hot Civic. Hyundai (they're Korean) is growing to be quickly on the price of Toyota and Honda. Sorry chum, yet you're way off base. Edit: i'm unsure whaty ou recommend by employing one vehicle vs 8 opposite numbers. Are talking relating to the U. S. industry, or someplace else? This coudl be our distinction. i does no longer learn the Fusion to the autos you indexed. i might learn the Ford Fiesta to the Sunny, accessory, Sentra, Yaris, and Tida. i might learn the concentration to the Civic, Corolla, and Lancer. Edit 2: Now i think of i understand what you recommend, I had a difficult time information your wording. Ford does have small autos in the industry, the concentration and Fiesta that are extremely competative. GM Has the hot Cruze (which isn't consistent with Daewood), the Aveo (consistent with Daewood) and the Sonic which would be launched quickly. in addition they have the Buick Regal, and quickly might have the Buick Verona it somewhat is a small vehicle. A hatchback referred to as the GL is likewise coming in the the destiny. Chrysler is now partnered with Fiat and could be basing small autos on their structures, they have already got the 5 hundred. That being pronounced, individuals have not traditionally offered sub-compacts in super numbers. The industry must be artificially created by employing government standards as nicely as inflated gasoline costs. i myself do no longer understand what you have become at.
