You should really go to the doctor. The trapped feeling is common for depression. Your doctor will go over the list and decide if you need to be on meds. Please don't be afraid of opening up to the doctor. If it *is* depression, there are many treatments available. The first step is the hardest though, and that is opening up.

Oh no! I am so sorry for you. Maybe it's the bodily changes such as hormones that are making you feel down. Combined with poverty I think that would do it. If you play guitar you are one up on a lot of people already. Learning and instrument is supposed to help you learn school work because of the way the brain processes things. Did you know that? To break out of poverty you must get good grades. You don't have to get all As or Bs but you have to at least try. you must graduate high school. From there college or tech school is an absolute must. Please focus on your potential and not what is wrong with you. You play guitar, you are creative. I love Jimi Hendrix. I am attaching two links....one is about how to make a living giving guitar lessons and the other is about nmemonics which is a memory technique that will help you learn and get good grades.

I think almost every 13 yr old feels like u do at some point. You've got so many hormones changing virtually every part of you, so it's very normal to have intense feeling of all different kinds. You gotta talk to someone. Personally, I think u should talk to your school shrink, he can offer you more options to help you than anyone else. Tell him how u feel, and that you want to meet w/ her/him, maybe a couple times a week. Remember, you are just feeling all the pressures a teen has these days, and it's completely normal. Also, talk to your guidance counselor about raising your grades w/ tutors or extra help and once you do you will be able to think about pursuing college scholarships. There r many, many opportunities, especially for minority students to get scholarships to college, if u get your grades up.
Start to be proactive, in other words, aggressively taking the steps and doing the things that will improve your situation and make your life better. Being proactive about getting help can also help you to gain self confidence and help you to feel positive about where your life is heading. I know I'm know expert so I hope this helped. You sound like a cool kid, good luck to you.

PS try using a mini voice recorder so you can record Ideas you have for song lyrics right when they come to you. That way you don't have to sit there and try and write out a whole song about ideas you had two weeks ago.

Hey bud, that's being young and being creative. At least from what I remember (I used to write a lot of poetry, a lot of it for songs), being young and not having a whole lot of life experience to draw from hurt my creativity... And then I would read something or listen to something and think 'dude, I suck.' Give it time, as you grow you'll find more things that inspire you... Maybe a new hobby, maybe just something that makes you feel the music. The important thing in art, as in life, is to never give up. Try to look on the bright side, and set goals for yourself. With nowhere to go, you'll go nowhere. Give yourself a place that you want to be in a few years or what have you, and sit down and think what it will take for you to get there. Then go do it. And set your sights high, so that if you don't quite achieve all your aims, you'll still be sitting pretty well anyways. Hope that helps.

I felt exactly how you feel growing up when I was about 12 or 13 too. It's normal for you to be confused when you're just becoming a teenager, your body feels strange, you're starting to grow hair in unusual places, your hormones are all over the place, that's perfectly normal growing up.
At least you have a gift for being able to play a musical instrument, concentrate on that and talk to a good friend or your school guidance counselor, they can help you if your parents can't.

Dont worry, you're normal....alot of musicians play instruments and play them very well but still dont write the actual music. Some of the most recognized performers and musicians in the world have a brilliant team of writers behind them just itching to put out the next hit record. Just try wiriting down everything that happened to you in one day and go from there. As far as being confused....hun i was confused at 13 and im still confused at 24...life is confusing and it takes awhile to find your place in the world...Keep your head up and everything will work out in the end!

Well my confused friend, I am a poet. Let me tell you how bad music is getting these days. Lyrics are becoming duller and less original, and music in general is going downhill. If you really think you can make a song, take your time, and make it good, because the odds are that something you make will be ten times better than just some average rocker. Go for it!

You know,I really understand how you feel.
I was starting to feel less creative. But something inspired me you know.
Look deep inside yourself. Something inside you can spark your imagination. In our society as youths we have seen our share of things going around. It's like they are out there with no
imagination, soul, and the want to create.. But
I have felt stupid, i really don't like myself too much at times. I'm two years older than you and i'm part black myself. Sometimes i notice people my age look at me different. I feel that no one gets me and if I try and explain myself
they might think it is crazy, deranged. But i look inside myself just looking for something to carry on. Im steadily learning guitar and i want to play something with a substance of soul, something that will hit you hard in the soul. Music that has power and that sends you away
and you can come back down when the feeling is over. I don;t just want to be another person form this generation that sounds the same. I know exactly how you feel, there's a battle going on inside me so don;t feel alone. when it comes over you just take it. trust me. I hope that you win your battle because i'm steadily fighting mine. Good luck and I wish you all the best.

We all get confused. It helps me to be alone and meditate. In other words, just find a quiet place to think and look inside yourself for answers. You have plenty of time to be creative, and pushing yourself will only hinder the creativity. You will be more creative when your head is clear and you are relaxed.
It's very important to make time for yourself, to clear your head.
The fact that you're asking tells me that you're very strong and insightful. You're already on the right tack.

We all go through periods of time where we just don't understand what is going on in our life. You might want to find someone you can talk to. Talk to your parents, or maybe there is a teacher or a school counselor that will listen to what you have to say.
