The rainbow effect can be observed whenever there are water drops in the air and sunlight shining from behind the observer at a low altitude or angle. The most spectacular rainbow displays when half of the sky is still dark with draining clouds and the observer is at a spot with clear sky overhead. The rainbow effect is also commonly seen near waterfalls or fountains. Rainbow fringes can sometimes be seen at the edges of backlit clouds and as vertical bands in distant rain or virga. The effect can also be artificially created by dispersing water droplets into the air during a sunny day.

In a very few cases, a moonbow, or night-time rainbow, can be seen on strongly moonlit nights. As human visual perception for colour in low light is poor, moonbows are most often perceived to be white.

The rainbow's appearance is caused by dispersion of sunlight as it is refracted by (approximately spherical) raindrops. The light is first refracted as it enters the surface of the raindrop, reflected off the back of the drop, and again refracted as it leaves the drop. The overall effect is that the incoming light is reflected back over a wide range of angles, with the most intense light at an angle of about 40°–42°. This angle is independent of the size of the drop, but does depend on its refractive index. As seawater has a higher refractive index than rain water, the radius of a 'rain'bow in a sea spray is smaller than a true rainbow. This is visible to the naked eye by a misalignment of these bows.

Not exactly a religion question ... the sky is blue because of something called "Rayleigh Scattering" wherein the blue wavelengths of light are normally scattered more than the redder colors. Rainbows are caused by refraction of the sunlight into its component colors.

However, God can and has used natural phenomena like this to communicate His presence to the world throughout history. Skeptics often say "why doesn't God show us a sign that He's out there?" An open-minded person would say "God is showing us signs all the time." Besides, God showed ancient Israel plenty of signs of His presence, but still they persisted in unbelief. It's a heart and a will issue, not a mind issue.

Because of the upper atmosphere. Looking through the scale of colors in a prism gives off certain colors and that is shown through seeing a rainbow better than anything. The same is true for the sky being blue. It's the hue from that portions of the prism that makes it blue. There is a lot more to it than this but it's a simple explanation.

A rainbow is nothing more than sunlight filtering through water vapor that acts like a prism. The sky is blue due to factors I can't claim to completely understand but it's along the same lines with sunlight being filtered by the atmosphere and depending on atmospheric conditions different colors show better than others, primarily blue.

I would venture to say that the sky is blue because it reflects the color of the oceans.
The number 7 is a spiritual because it symbolizes LIGHT. Which is really 6 colors combined. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Violet. Combined creating White or Clear Light. This can be seen through the water particles left in the sky right after
it rains, or through a prism.

I don't know about the blue sky thing, but in the Bible it says God made a convenant with man to never cover the Earth with water again. The rainbow reminds us of the covenant. Sure it can be explained scientifically but that doesn't mean God didn't put it here for us to enjoy!

God made the sky look blue and He made the rainbow visible to us as a token of His covenant.

After the great flood (b.c. time), God promised that He would never flood the entire earth again. He said that He would make a cloud and place His bow in the cloud for all of us to see and remember His promise, and that He would remember His promise to us when He saw this bow, as well.
