One of my friends is a Marine who originally introduced me to the the following website. Not only do they help soldiers bring home the strays they have befriended while they are deployed, but they also have helped many soldiers find a foster home or new home for their pets.
http://www.militarymascots.org/index.html
Once you are into the site by clicking "Read More," click on "Foster Homes." They are a group of awesome, caring people.
Another site that may be helpful would be http://www.uswardogs.org/. You will not find people more devoted to their dogs. They may be able to put you in touch with someone who can help. Good luck and God bless!

Shiba Inu's are great dogs and beautiful. I would look for a Shiba Inu rescue organization in your area. Explain your situation to them.
Rescue leagues are great for surrundering animals since they truly have the animal's welfare at heart.
They will make sure the two stay together if that is what they require. Also the homes and people are screened so that who ever adopts them will most likely have them forever.
Rescue leagues usually require that if for any reason the person can't keep the dogs they have to return them to the rescue league.
I also see where it might be possible that you can write the owner's to check on your dogs.
And if you develope a good relationship with the rescue league most likely you can get a Shiba Inu from them when your life is more settled.
Good Luck..
I know it is hard time in your life.

Everyone gave you good advice regarding adoption.
But maybe you can find someone to foster your dogs while you are away. If they knew your situation they they might be able to help. If this is an option for you, then let everyone you speak to know this can be a temporary situation. I had friends that were called to duty, and through some networking their dogs are being cared for temporarily by kind hearted people. My friends still pay for all expenses, food & vet, the people just provide the temporary home or shelter. Good Luck, I hope this can work out for all 3 of you. Sorry your dedication to our country has forced you to make such a heart -breaking sacrafice. May God Bless you & thanks for your comitment.

there is an address for the midwest rescue for Shiba Inu's.
I have two rescued Spitzes, these agencies really take care of the dogs and will find them a great home together.
They should be able to direct you to an agency, or rescuer closer to you if you are not in the midwest.

it sucks that society doesn't relaize that dogs are more dependable than people. is there a rescue league that would take them? i know they have them for greyhounds, pit bulls etc.
but Shiba Inu's being a fairly new breed, i haven't heard of any rescue org's. i'd take them for you if i could, but i have 4 dogs already and 3 are over 100 lbs. i wish there was more i could offer.

You can find the breed's rescue group through www.akc.org - they take dogs in to re-home them.

Take them on a shelter or a kennel and put them for adoption there. Lots of nice people adopt from there.
