Steam room is more humid and opens the pores of the skin. It also helps with breathing. A sauna is dry and heats the muscles and releives pain

the difference is humidity - a steam room has 100% humidity and a sauna has 0% (or at least as close to those % as they can get).

so basically one's wet and one's dry!

Edit: - also a solerium is 1/2 way between the 2 (50% humidity)
