My daughter bought a house which had no physical connection to a BT land line as the cable had been cut at the house wall for some stupid reason.
The previous inhabitants used Telewest fibre optic cable for the phone, TV and for broadband, so she has done the same. The connection was already there.
If you have no access to either BT line or Telewest/NTL you may have a problem. Connection via mobile will be damn expensive.
You may have to bite the bullet and pay BT, there is nobody else that provides a copper (rather than fibre optic) connection. You may want to make sure they've got decent broadband speed first.

There are many other options for internet than just a land line. I know of several people who don't have a land line and just use cell phones. They have internet. I'm not sure what is in you area, but it would definitely be something to look into. Good luck!

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way out of it, unless going for cable for ever, and getting cable is quite hard as it is not in a lot of places around the UK.
Someone said to get wireless broadband, but you can't do this without a phone line anyway!
Try and see if you can get cable (NTL, Telewest) in your area, and if not it looks like you will have to choose BT.
Good luck

You could take up a Virgin Media, aka Ntl/Telewest offer to include basic tv package /broadband/phone line package. They'll probably have some good deals now to compete with the SKY free broadband.
Expect the £120 BT quote has VAT on top as well.

The installation charge for a line is 124.99 including VAT (subject to survey). Unfortunately it's not a case of just a socket. It's your connection to the outside world so to speak. BT can sometimes offer a spread connection -where you spread the cost over 5 instalments over 12 months. If that helps?!?

You could look to see if you can get cable in your new home, its normally free installation and often works out cheaper than BT.

i use freecall service its very good, http://www.freecall.com/en/index.html download the application from their website and create an account and you can call any landline number within the UK and some other country for free no hidden charges or any sort of Spyware, virus. For mobile they may charge you but not very much i think for that you have to credit your account.
try it!!!
