yes there was 3,081 and the number is going up.
the wounded will be far greater
the emotional trauma will be so great that we will suffer for many years from the vets who come back...broken marriages, drugs and alcohol etc etc
but there is no draft and nobody that was sent to Iraq was forced as they all volunteered to join the armed forces.
I did my duty during the Viet Nam era and I can honestly say that the civilians were more in harms way with the traffic accidents that take so many lives in the U.S.A. you are safer in the military even if its war time then being a civilian in the USA ...believe that or not...check out the statistics...

Once again for all the idiots that seem to be confused about what a soldier is - When a person signs up for the military, they are signing up to fight for their country. They are not signing up for free medical treatment, or for reduced prices on food and cigarettes. They are becoming a soldier. Soldiers go to war for their country. Soldiers fight for their country, and sometimes soldiers die for their country! Right or wrong, agree or disagree. That is an honorable act. What is NOT honorable is people that sit back and criticize the war, the president, the military, etc. because they have been conditioned to think that everything is supposed to be politically correct, and they believe that they can do better. Stand behind our troops! Quit your damn bellyaching, and be a patriot. Believe me, if you were in one of the countries that consider Americans evil infidels, you would be treated as such, and all your claims that you don't agree with what your country is doing wouldn't make one damned bit of difference. If you are an American, act like an American. BE an American.

Officially, 3,095. Yet these are misleading. As not counted are soldiers removed to Germany for treatment, then die are NOT counted as combat deaths. Same for soldiers who die of complications from wounds received in Iraq. I heard the true numbers are way hire than numbers being released by officials. Unforgivable...Mary
