For most of the "famous" iriah bars there can be a 3+ hour wait on St Patricks day. Even lines at the "average" ones starting around 1pm. Filled with a bunch of people for NJ and Queens

If you want to hit an Irish bar but go apart from the obvious.....take Metro-North on the Harlem line to the Woodlawn Station. Grab the BX16 bus (heading to 206th Street/Bainbridge) and get out Katonah Avenue. Walking along that street you will find TONS of Irish bars with the fronts that look like something out of Dublin (since that community has one of the largest Irish population in NYC and many illegal Irish immigrants as well). Keep walking up Katonah Avenue into Yonkers and hang a left on McLean Avenue. MORE Irish bars with that Ireland feel to it. Best one to hit....Rory Dolans.

Yeah...about ten thousand. Every other corner has an irish bar...if you are going for St patricks day I assume it will be pretty obvious where to go.
There are also thousands of things to do in NYC...what are into?
Art? tons of art museums in NYC. How about food? All over the friggin place! The night life? Times square the meat packing district soho, the village..i mean really the list goes on and on.
I suggest thinking about what you want to do first...then just do a search on google...that will give you a better idea of where you want to go, be and do. Have a great time.
Oh and Mcgees is fun..ive been there also.

Paddy's on 2nd and McCormacks on 3rd are good Irish bars with a bit of authenticity. McCormacks is also showing the 6 nations rugby.
St. Pat's Day will be nuts in NY, especially Irish bars. Head to Yonkers or Bay Ridge to see the Irish...

Try McSorley's Ale House on East 7th Street. It's the oldest bar in New York City. Walking into it is like going into a time machine. The beer isn't that great but the atmosphere is.
