There is no legal limit. If you want you can live out of the garbage cans, wear a hessian sack as clothing, and sleep on doorsteps or in a cardboard box, if you want. Unfortunately many people who do this have no real choice. No society has legislated a minimum amount of money, however in some societies you can be arrested for vagrancy. In New South Wales Australia it used to be the case that if you did not have 5 dollars and a comb, they could charge you with vagrancy, and throw you in jail, this still may be the law in some states in the USA.

If you are talking about a minimum wage, i suggest that you look up your federal government website. If you are talking about welfare, look that up on your state or federal websites as well.

However, there is no legal minimum limit to poverty.

I am employed on a zero hour contract. I can not claim income support or job seekers allowance. Some months I will earn £200-300 from work. Last month I earned £70. This month my boss has not needed me so for Feb I will have no money at all, I will have to borrow food money from my family. The government thinks this is acceptable. I can't get careers advice for free unless I am claiming job seekers allowance, I can't do that unless I quit and wait 3 months until I am eligible. So I can't get a better job unless I pay for my own training or careers advice which I can't afford.
So the government fully expects me as a 26 year old adult to be able to live on only borrowed money until I can finance my own change of career. All I want is a hour with a careers advisor and help to improve my CV!

Hi Curious,

It really is dependant upon a broad range of factors, and i thinkl the honest truth is that even the Dept for work and pensions do not have a definitive answers, as the tables accomodate legal interpretation of words such as 'hardship', 'need', 'income', etc.
However i would assume the lowest pay scale of benefit would be awrded to young persons who have recently acheived the legal age to receive benefits.
This is justified by explaining they have contributed least to the 'welfare state'.
Incidentally, the welfare state will cease to exist, i would say as soon as in the next 50-75 yrs.
It's already in effect, ie dental care is almost a private concern now, and extractions seem to be the only service the NHS supplies now.

enable me see if I understand what you're typing. you have a 17 365 days previous daughter that's virtually to coach 18 years previous. Over the summer trip she have been given a job and is paying all her expenditures and pays for faculty. You reported which you 'took' $500 from her or maybe your mom borrowed $4 hundred for taking part in expenditures. For some reason she is looking forward to you to pay her decrease back. you have fed her; fabric her and she or he could be happy to have the situation you grant her to stay at. You admit that it would take you 0.5 the time it would for her to make the money. you're telling me which you quickly to be 18 365 days previous daughter worked for over sixty seven hours to get the money the you took from her and a few how think of that she could purely supply you the money. you're able to comprehend the you are the single that necessary her funds. It fairly would not make any distinction what it became into for or in spite of if the money became into going for use for expenditures that could result her room and board. then you definately say YOUR mom borrowed yet another $4 hundred and now all she has in her account is $10. I completely agree which you newborn needs to make contributions and help out with the failings which you have and am offering her. i can delight in that it is advisable to coach her accountability or maybe that going to artwork isn't continually a occasion. My question to you is what sort of lesson are you going to coach her by way of purely taking her funds. in case you have confidence this or not, she earned the money she made. She is doing something useful with what she made, and became into even prepared to grant you funds once you necessary. you're able to be happy together with her. You seem to have raised a daughter that's doing useful issues with the money and shows a good number of accountability with the money she has earned. She gave you and your mom a good number of what she had that she is purely left with $10. You declare she could make contributions, yet it is the incorrect way of coaching her this. you may not sit down there and attempt to coach her accountability to pay the expenditures she creates, then take her funds to pay the expenditures you owe and refuse to pay her decrease back. you're able to confirm what lesson you attempt to coach. while the money became into given to you, became into it with the understand-how that she became into providing you with the money? Did you tell her that the money became into to 'make contributions' something to the residing house?

You haven't told us what country you're from.

Some countries have minimum income levels which are guaranteed and usually vary according to need -- if you're old, if you need extra care, extra heating etc., if you're sick. They also usually vary according to what capital you have in the bank. Other countries have no minimum income guarantees and you can just starve to death if you've no money.
