I was reading the nutritional info on my bread and it said that 100g provides 228 calories, and that a 2 slice serving which is 76g provides 75 calories.

How does that work out? Maybe I`m calculating this wrong but if you divide 228 by 100 and multiply by 76 you dont get 75 calories you get 173.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

It is a bit confusing but i will try anyways.

There is more calories (and nutrients) in the crust of the bread than in the center. This happens because it is actually, sort of burning along the sides of the baking pan making it more dense. Therefore in the ends there are more calories because there is more crust. When calculated this amount is distributed throughout the whole loaf.

Sorry this isnt the greatest explanation.

On any nutrition label, you simply look at the calories for the "SERVING" size.
You will also note that the higher the fiber, the lower the total fat--- the lower the calories.
