3200 calories is 1 pound of fat, in order to lose 1 pound a week you need to first find out how many calories you need to maintain your weight then take that and minus 300 calories a day and burn 200 aday doing any type of cardio, that will equal 3500 calories a week you burn thus a pound a week. Thas the healthiest way to lose weight. If you want to just maintain your weight eat the same amount of calories you burn. http://www.caloriecontrol.org/calcalsm.html

It's not necessary to burn all the calories that you take in. You will still be able to lose weight if you don't burn all the calories you take in, that's for sure. But if you can, it's better if you do. :)

The number of calories you take in is the number of calories in the food you eat.
The number of calories you burn depends on your lifestyle, ie your activity. If this is is less than you take in, you gain weight. If it is more, you lose weight.
