Well lets look at it this way.

The pay isn't great, but it's a calling.

What i mean by that is when you get treated well and paid well it's called a career, but when your just an other cog in the machine then it's a calling.

As a civil servant i can tell you it is done for the love of it or not at all. Do something you believe in and take part in the system so that you can have greater input or get a job.

If you have a passion for Government or the Military, it's great. But other than that you can make better money at home depot.

So jury duty is slavery? The idea of mandatory service is one that has been implemented in a lot of countries successfully, and goes back to the first ancient Greek democracies. If you don't like it, you can go move to another country. I personally think we need this to bond America closer instead of us all being at civil war with each other and against the government, if it takes the government making us get involved, then that is what it will have to come down to.

The pay is about 10% lower than you can get in the private sector, but the benefits, security, and employee rights protections are worth it. Also, it's nice to only have to put in 8 a day, and to actually get paid for your overtime.
