I will be returning to the US with my 4 children after a year in the UK. My husband needs to stay a bit longer and will be following us later. Our flight will be booked with one airline, but there are three legs in our trip. We will go from Glasgow to Dublin and Dublin to Boston on Aer Lingus and from Boston to Washington, DC on American Airlines. Since the flights are all booked together on the Aer Lingus website, can I assume that our luggage will be transferred automatically? The last leg is a domestic flight, so will I have to go through customs in DC once I collect my bags or in Boston? I need to make sure I have enough help with the children (the youngest is 3) and all the luggage while we struggle through customs!

Your bags will be tagged to your final destination however, you will be asked to clear US customs at your initial point of entry into the States. Once cleared, you will drop your bags in an area marked for connecting flights... I know it sounds complicated, but I do it all the time and it's pretty straightforward.

Logan (Boston) is not as crazy as some and you can hire a porter to help with the transfer... tip about $2 a bag

Good luck

You will have to check into customs upon entry into the U.S. We just travelled through England about a month ago and the Heathrow airport stinks!!! The people who work in the airport are so rude and uncurtious, I just asked them one question and they wen nutso on me!! The biggest thing to know is that Heathrow and all other British Airports go by their own carry on baggage size and dont care about what the size limitations of your airline are, so make sure that your carry on luggage fits into those little metal checking things. We flew from San Fran to Heathrow on American Airlines with no problem, but when we went to change flights in London they made us check in our carry ons (which we just carried on American Airlines) because they said they were to large. We asked them, isnt that for the airline to decide not the airport, and this lady went psycho about how they have their own rules and blah blah blah... we have travelled world wide and this was def the worst experiance ever!! As far as customs you will def have to go through customs and recheck luggage at your first stop in the U.S. which I think is Boston right? They wont allow people onto a domestic flight without checking their luggage if they are coming off an international flight. It will be difficult with all your kids but hopefully the airport staff will be helpful! Best of luck and hope you have a good flight back!!!

My daughter travelled to New York from Australia before Christmas. She had a short stopover in LA & had to claim her luggage and recheck it before boarding for NY. It was a bit chaotic! Best ring the airline.

once you're only staying for some days, why do you want some thousand? that could seem suspicious. determine you have your airplane value ticket homestead, and info on the place you're staying.
