Wine-making hasn't changed in its basic form for thousands of years, although wines are much purer now and last longer. Distillation of spirits is a comparatively newer method and yields much higher alcohol content.

There were no bar code and labels of alcohol percentages on the strong drink in the bible

It's far stronger. You have to imagine that our distillation processes have gotten a lot better.
