I have a five month old kitten that I adopted from the Humane Society. She is constantly doing strange things that my other cats have never done. The first is she'll be laying around the house all normal and suddenly she will run to the nearest wall and jump up as high as she can. I've looked to see if maybe she sees bugs or something there but nothing is ever on the wall not even a shadow. Other times her pupils get dialated and she runs around the house sideways with her fur all poofy. I can't find a reason for this behavior either. She has been living with us for two months now and she probably knows our schedules, I just don't know what freaks her out. I had heard that tortoiseshell tabby's are neurotic but I didn't really believe. She's banged her head a bunch of times on tables, walls, sliding glass window, my legs and other things. Why does she act like this?

Yeah, not to worry. My 3 months old kitten also acting crazy running around the house all poofy, and attack everything close to him including my legs, especially when we just got back from the vet!

She's only 5 months old and still very playful.

Scrappy Luise welcomes your new kitten. Scrappy is a tortoiseshell tabby as well. (kitty in the picture). Scrappy received her name because when some dork left her litter go in a field she found a human. She went up and sat next to my friends foot. He looked down to see a scrappy looking tiny kitten. We kept the name and I added the middle name of Luise. She seems to like it. Luise Annie Chloe' Rosie I think are cute names. Scrappy is now 9 months old and Super spoiled. She loves to go shopping at Petsmart and sits in the "kitty" seat with her blankie. My husband tells her to keep her paws in the cart cuz if she sees something she likes she is all paws. Enjoy your new baby and congrats!!!

Yes, I have owned many tortoiseshell cats in the past and all of them didn't quite act like a normal cat, but what cat acts normal anyways? but yes this is normal behavior for a tortoiseshell. so lay back and relax.

I haven't heard of this thing about tortie tabbies... but I know that cats store energy throughout the day and they have to spend their energy some place and it might be possible that she is bored?

Maybe this wouldn't sound right but what if there is "something" in your house attracting her attention?

As for banging her head accidentally... sorry can't help you there.

I don't think her color has anything to do with it. Lots of kittens do this sort of stuff. They get these bursts of energy and just let it out. Just this morning my 8 month old tabby was chasing something invisible in my bedroom.
