I'm going to call the vet today, but to give me peace of mind right now while I'm working, how can you tell if your dogs eye ulcer is getting better? I took her to the eye doctor on monday and they gave her two drops and some oral medication. I started it monday at lunch time and have been doing it since. She is more playful than she was when I first got her (on Saturday), she is eating better as well. She doesn't seem to be holding it shut as much as she was. Just when I go to put drops in it or when the light is really bright in her face. I think it may be looking somewhat better, but I can't really tell. How long does it take these things to heal and what should I look for if it is getting better. Today is the second full day shes been on the medicine. Thanks!

Her right eye is a different color than her left eye. It looks like it has a bluish tint. I looked at some pics online and it doesn't look quite as bad as some I've seen. It not longer has a mucus discharge since I've been using the drops. Her eye has somewhat of a red ring around it.

The only way to tell for sure is to stain the eye with a special stain. The ulcer picks up the stain and lets the vet see where the edges of it begin and end, then they rinse it out.

Hi,
My pug has an ulcer in her eye also. It has been a week and 2 days since she has been on medication. The color in eye improved after 4-5 days. However although it looks normal right now, I just noticed that she is shutting it on occasion. My vet gave told me to keep putting the medicine in her eye on our return (after a week of eye meds) on Monday.

I had an ulcer on my eye about 20 years ago and it takes a while to heal.

Sounds like your dog is improving. Just keep giving her the meds.
