In Norway the limit is .2
The police will ALWAYS keep an alcohol tester in their car, and like to use them. If they think the driver is on drugs or medicine - they will transport you to the hospital to get a more advanced blood test. With some types of medicine you will be treated the same as if you were drinking alcohol. With drugs, the same - and they will probably give you a drug charge as well. And in some cases you will never get your licens back.. ever. You can probably not even drive a moped legaly afterwards.
If you have 0.2 - 0.5 you will loose your license for max 1 year, you will usually not go to prison. The fine is 1/12 of your yearly income.
0.5 - 1.0, you will loose your license for at least 1 year, you get 1 year suspended prison sentence, The fine is 1,5 x monthly income.
1 - 1,5 You will loose your license for at least 1 year, you get at least 1 year in prison and a fine that is equal to 1,5 x your monthly income.
Over 1,5 = loose license for at least 2 years, get to spend quite a while in prison and a fine that equals 1,5 x your monthly income (or at least $1800. If you are rich you may have to pay millions...).
A few millionaires have learned that the hard way. Should have those rules in Hollywood. Would get the California economy back on track fast.
When you loose your license, you will have to take your license from scratch. In Norway drivers ed is a fairly huge deal. It will set you back about $3.000-6.000
The governmen may also take your vehicle.
If you loose your car license, you will loose your motorcycle license, your truck license, your bus license and so on. It may cost you $10.000 - 20.000 extra.
With no license, many will loose their job too.

Its a universal law that anyone caught drink driving is a threat to human life, and any police force will arrest and charge you. Some countries have much tougher sentencing than ours for this offence.

Most will lock you up for the night, and fined you, depending on which country you are in. if you find one country that the police take you to the nearest bar and buy you a drink for outstanding driving whilst under the influence, let me know and I'm out of here !!

In Australia the limit is .05 blood alcohol level. If you blow over that on the breathalyser they can demand you go to the police station for a blood test. If you refuse you get charged with drunk dr8iving, and when you are convicted you lose your licence and have to go to court and show cause to get it back, plus do some alcohol awareness course.
If you are in Queensland and are black when this happens they take you to the police station and kill you. Other states it is just as described above.
