It helped the Captain get some from the cuties and Gilligan too.
The barley/hops thing is a marketing myth.

berr is brewed from Hops and Barley, no such thing as a beer fruit, although there are beer nuts, which ahve nothing to do with the drink.

There are beers that are flavoured with fruit (e.g. cherries). They are a particular speciality in Belgium.
