Or hijib (apologise for spelling). I was amazed to learn that with just their eyes showing - how can authorities be sure if they are who they say they are when checking their passport, as apparently they don't need to look at their face.

They can't tell for sure. The only reason that I can think of as to why they don't check them out thoroughly is because they have orders not to offend anyone based on their religious beliefs. It is nonsense, of course. Airport security should say to them, "Nice Burka, but take it off! You are free to practice your religion in YOUR country, but if you want to visit here, you comply by our LAWS to protect our citizens, or don't come. PERIOD".

The face of a person must be shown when entering the Immigration Area for identification purposes. Religious practices must be lifted on this matter because this aspect had been used by terrorists.

Religion shouldn't come into this.. in these days of terrorism.. EVERYONE should be made to show their faces.. I think we should do in the UK like they do in the US.. take fingerprints and eye scans as extra added security..
If you have nothing to hide.. you have no need to object.. It's a little inconvenient because it takes a little longer.. but if it keeps us safe.. then it's worth while.

They do actually need to see the whole face, but as they need to be in a different room & can only show their face to a woman, it can be quite annoying for the poor check in staff, so they don't always check. Wrong i know.

The authourities can and do check people's faces in case of need. Muslims have no problem about women's faces being shown to a female officer, similar to the way body searches are done.
If people have slipped through due to insufficient checks, this is a general problem, not just concerning veiled women. White people especially tend to pass through without proper checks!

Muslim women who cover their faces can show themselves to other women, just not men. It sounds like the customs agents are just being lazy.
