they design the goods being manufactured as well as the machinery to make the goods. they also design the electrical power system of the goods, the plumbing systems, control systems, computer systems etc that are required for the manufacture and all other requirements for making goods.

most of the time, they act as quality control inspectors to ensure that products manufactured follow strict and stringet quality controls set in place for the item.
