I was put on this med when my mom was sick and I was overwhelmed. I knew I had probably needed something for depression and anxiety and my mom's illness really pushed me to the edge to the point where I couldn't ignore it anymore.

Anyway, the med seems to be working well for the depression, and it is almost eerie...my mother ended up passing away, I have lost my job, I am broke, and while I notice some cyclic signs of depression, I am not in that hopeless place where I have been from less crisis in the past.

Needless to say, I am glad that the downward spiral is not coming into play at this time, it will help me get things together and move along with my life.

I even quit smoking with less trouble than ever. I think it is for real this time, at three weeks now, with the help of nicotine therapy, the Effexor is the only thing different except all the added stress???

Who is taking this med? Do you feel like it helped you quit smoking or through anything else that hard???

Wanted to add a little here, I ran out of room. Another thing I am reading about after starting the med and using it correctly I am hearing about nasty times coming off it. I am on quite a low dose I think at 75 mg once a day.

Is Effexor addictive?

Any shared experiences with that will be appreciated.

I took effexor xr 75 and regular effexor 225mg for many years for my depression and anxiety. i felt great. then i started to feel invincible, on top of the world even. the come down from effexor was horrible. everything was surreal. it was the weirdest feeling i'd ever experienced.

since i stopped taking effexor, i had not tried anything else. i've been anti-depression med free for almost 2 years.

good luck.
