I am an ex-smoker. I think smoking is revolting and the stink of people who do is worse. To me, smelling a smoker is like smelling dog urine. I gave up cold turkey the day i found out i was pregnant with my daughter. There is no excuse to keep smoking with all the education we have about the health risks, and people who continue to smoke in the car with their children, well lets not get me started on their character...........

I think that being a non-smoker and being exposed to the 2nd hand smoke thing is very uncomfortable and very unhealthy. I am not saying that because there is such a big, bad deal about 2nd hand smoke, I am saying that from someone who grew up having to breath 2nd hand smoke everyday because my parent would smoke like a chimney in the car with all windows up - everywhere we went! I am now an adult, and I have had asthma since the age of 23, which came on by collapsing my lungs when I was 8 months pregnant, and I still suffer from severe asthma every day of my life not to mention allergies that never quit.

I'm a non-smoker. I wish cigarettes were banned, or at least that the U.S. government would stop subsidizing tobacco farmers. Certainly being around smokers is very unpleasant for me personally.

I think a lot of people start smoking in their teens because they don't really believe that the harmful effects are going to hurt THEM. Teenagers tend to think they're immortal, even if they don't know that they think so :-) Unfortunately, of course, that isn't true, and by the time they DO understand that they can be harmed, they're hooked. Once they're hooked, quitting is incredibly difficult - look at how many "stop-smoking" products are on the market.

In this case, as somebody once said, the best defense is a good offense - don't ever start!

I am realy not rational when I consider why I smoke. I usually smoke just to do it .I have never got any satisfaction after smoking .I always regreat why I did it. But know I have decided to quit .It is possible with firm determination. It is a month since I stopped it and I am feeling great.
try it yourself

I think cigarettes are disgusting. If smokers saw what actually goes into a cigarette, they would be more likely to quit. If I find out someone is a smoker, my opinion of them is immediately lowered. It is not attractive or cool in any way. Cigarettes make you smell bad and I won't even go into all the health issues.

cigarettes are a weakness... an excuse for some people. They're disgusting! They do a lot of damage to you. My father died of lung cancer 11 years ago :( They turn your fingers yellow, they make your clothes stink... and for all the nonsmokers out there, you gag them every time you exhale because the smell of smoke is HORRIBLE.

Cigarettes are dangerous and highly addictive.
I smoke because I am addicted and I haven't yet been able to quit for good.

Read my previous post in response to "Does quitting ... make you emotional?" I think my feelings on smoking are made clear there. (I am an ex-smoker)
