Worrying won't get her fat! She must be too young for dry cat food, and the chicken will be too lumpy and chewy. Get something really sloppy and feed it to her warm. For ages our kitten would only eat the jelly from the cat food - you could try that and the juices from a chicken roast let them cool first to tepid. Slightly older cats will take a raw egg beaten up and served in warm milk. If all this sounds too yukky try offering her sardines. She is probably missing her mum give her somewhere warm and fluffy to sleep.

You should't have gotten a kitten at only 8 weeks of age. The recommended age is 12 weeks after they have weaned and become more independent. For whatever reason you've not gotten this kitten, you ought to be worried. A kitten is like a calorie burning machine. The speed with which they grow in the first year of their lives is amazing. Kittens eat small meals but it's been studied they eat about 16 times a day! When I got my kitten, it was skinny, had poor appetite and diarrhoea. Vet got her on some medication which I suspect were also appetite inducing medicines cos he starting eating like crazy. A kitten MUST be playful and active. If he isn't, it's a clear indication something is wrong. Go see another vet.

I am surprised the vet didn't say anything else. I have had lots of kittens, and they are always overly playful at that age, running and bouncing all over the place. If you have even tried canned cat food and it won't eat much, even though it would still nurse on the momma, it should be eating food by now if the momma isn't present. Something just doesn't sound right. Can you afford to take the kitten back to the vet, or another vet, and have it checked for worms or whatever kittens can develop? It should be eating and playing.....hope its ok....

My kitten was the same when I got her when she was almost 7 weeks old. I would try to give her a little bit of kitten milk (you can get it at any pet store or almost any grocery store) through an eyedropper. Or you can give her some canned kitten food. She will probably just lick the jelly from the cat food but at least it's something. She is too young to be eating hard dry food so you can get a high quality dry KITTEN kibble for her and just pour a little bit of warm water or warm kitten milk in it to soften the kibble for her.
If neither of those options work, talk to your vet about this.

it's unusual for kittens not to be playful. you shld consult another vet, it may have worm or something in it's mouth that's why it won't eat much or won't eat at all. i've seen a lot of kitties on alley ways or those not owned which are skinny but still very palyful
