I think they're worthless. I don't bother reading them, and automatically give them a thumbs-down, just to remove them from my view.
It's a sure sign that the person has no thoughts of their own to contribute, and the format of Y!A is not made for reading long articles. I don't mind reading an interesting on a website formatted for comfortable reading, but I'm not going to read three hundred lines of less than a hundred characters each.
If someone is using an article or scriptural quote as their source, they can provide a llink to it in the "Sources" section. It's there for a reason.

I think a lot of people assume things are copied and pasted if they are even semi-coherent. Most of the garbage posted on here is barely legible. Many of these people seem functionally illiterate in that not only can they just barely recognize the symbols (letters), but that they cannot process the information in the sentence as a whole.
I guess I can't blame them, but as someone who doesn't copy and paste, it's annoying that some people assume you do if you write at a second grade level or above.

You know what is actually FUNNY about your question?
I sit at my PC a lot, I run a Bible prophecy club, and I am an ordained minister. I actually write my posts for my site and for printing for teaching. And you know what? People think they are someone else's stuff. Yup, I am the one who sits at my PC knowing that if what I take hours to write out by hand, then type into MS Word & Frontpage, will help even one person. Well, it was worth the Carpel Tunnel syndrome I have, as well as the backaches. LoL And if you think my posts are long? You ought to meet me in person and listen to me talk. I can do that for hours to. I could care less about points on some forum. I run 4 forums with many members, and points here are simply encouragements to give Yahoo higher rankings, because every time you visit a page they get more notariety and such.

Many people will take an opinion of someone else and accept it as the Gospel. (They may take the Gospel as the Gospel also.) In doing so, it seems to relieve them of any responsibility to think things thru, to evaluate what they read, or to form their own opinion. You often see this in a debate, where a person will cut and paste a bible quote and seem to feel that ends the debate. It may end the debate, not because they came up with an argument that can not be refuted, but because they are unable to think beyond that point. I personally feel that if a person needs to do cut and pastes to argue their point, they are just brain dead and do not understand the subject enough to seriously debate it further.

I sometimes give very long answers... they are not copied from a website... I actually write them... I am a writer by profession.
Do not assume that all long well-written answers must have been copied off a website. Some people ENJOY being very thorough with their answers IF they think they have something of value to contribute.

well, people believe strongly in much longer things even it is INVALID. like what so called holy books written by interesting writers before thousand and more years. yet they put these words like sword unto our heads. these people called ignorants or brainwashed. they have to study more and read the full article. conspiracy theorists are another examples of how people believe easily any long lie supported by no -or weak shadowy evidences.

I like to give answers off the top of my head but sometimes I get part of the scripture in it too. I agree that long winded speeches are not usually good. Sometimes the copy and paste is good when you need exact refrences.

I assure you that anything that I answer is 100% typed by me.
I refuse to cut and paste, on religious grounds. I like to find the verse, check it, type it and recheck it. I'm sorta old fashioned that way.
