I currently have a premium sound system but its getting old and doesn't sound good like it used to. I have been looking to mimic the sound it once had without adding subwoofers or a tube. I'm not a big basshead but I don't want the bass to be diminished either. Do you think by replacing the speakers with new 6 1/2" components I will get the sound desire? I've also thought of replacing the front speakers with coaxials and putting Midbass drivers in the rear. Either way the new speakers will get a new amp to work with. Which way would you go?

Its a '96 Nissan 240SX. It has 6 1/2's front and rear with tweeters in the front collums. The trunk is small and I don't want to take up much space with a sub box.

I would strongly recommend the components. If you go to a coaxial, you will lose all the clairty in your high range because the new tweeters will be playing at your knees, not at your ears.

Components, a four-channel amp, and a 10" sub in a small sealed enclosure. Bridge the 3rd and 4th channels on the amp to the sub. You will be thououghly impressed with the fullness of the sound. I have this exact set-up in my '96 Grand Cherokee (it replaced the Infinity Gold system) and I love it. I've used similar systems in various cars. I am a sound engineer and hate bassheads. I strive for music quality and this is the easiest and most eficient route. You don't have to go with big power to get big sound, either. A 50x4 (RMS) amp and a 200 watt (RMS) sub should do the trick.

Coaxials? Barf. Stay with components. CDT is known for good base in their 6 1/2 components.
