by AFPC sweetheart... when you're in basic training, you fill out a "dream sheet" which let's you pick up to 16 basis I THINK (8 stateside, and 8 overseas.) That was back in 2000, they might have changed it since then... anyway, you turn in your paper and it goes into the computer. After that, you're life "and assignment" are in the hands of the almighty Gods at AFPC (Air Force Personnel Center) and they get to choose where to send you. UNLESS you're chosen for a humanitarian assignment, where you request to be close to a family member who relies on your help due to some form of medical complication.

Each branch of the military, be it the Air Force or whatever, sends its members where they are needed the most. If your recruiter promised you a certain duty assignment in a specific location, you can bet that he/she was not being 100% truthful.

I suppose that you can make wishes like I would like to fly f15e at bla bla... But I bet you cant say like "Anything but iraq is fine for me" that whant work. But in any military someone else than the soldiers decide where to sent that particular soldier. They may talk about it, even ask you for prefferenses but in the end someone else is making the decision.

One things that also determens where you end up is what youre military occupation speciality is. If youre an f-15E driver then your can only be assigned to bases/squadrons that houses f-15E:s of course! Johan
