Hello-
I was just wondering if anyone has gone though basic training with a kind of bad knee, and how hard it was. It's nothing I can't handle, it just kind of aches sometimes. It doesn't really stop me from doing anything. As long as I'm determined and don't give up should I be fine? It's kind of stressing me out right now because I've worked really hard to be able to enlist. I've always played a ton of sports, which is why I have the knee problem, it wasn't from a traumatic injury or anything like that. Thanks for the input!!!

If you have been to MEPs and went through everything than you should be fine. If not, they will test your knee through and through. Since you said this wasn't from a serious injury like a torn acl/mcl or something along those lines than I think you will be fine, just stay determined and don't let anyone or anything get in the way of doing what you want in life.

I can see you have your heart set on going enlisted no matter the cost on yourself. I wanted to assure you if and such a injury progresses to a different stage during Basic Training you can possibly be discharged. But you can also be in evaluation to a delayed platoon is always a good possibility in your case as well. But take into consideration that further injuring yourself or perhaps even somehow making through Basics, will jeopardize you in the long run. If you explain exactly what kind of injury you sustained to your knee I can help you more properly as oppose to guessing what is wrong. Go and get a MRI, this is your knee, the most important part to a soldier in a event of combative situation other than your Rifle being your life savior. Think of it this way, would you go into a zone with a defective weapon?

Its hard to say whether you have a military fyture or not. First I would recomend a medical exam to see if there is anything that can be fixed.

Militarys, especialy the army do use their knees a lot. Youre supposed to knee or lie down when shooting and so on. If you have any movement restrections then tell the examinators or who ever need to know it in the process of being a soldier. DO NOT hide it. If you tell them they will send you to medical exam to see if youre good enough for basic schol. Good luck! Johan

If you can make it through Boot Camp, you may be able to get corrective surgery on it once you get to your first duty station. I played a lot of sports in the military and averaged one operation every two years for the 10 years I served. I also had countless sprained ankles, twisted knees, broken fingers & hand. If it bothers you you can get a knee brace. You may have onset arthritis or tendonitis due to your sports activity. Oh yeah, I had arthroscopic surgery of the right knee, too! The military is a blast for sports, and they will take care of you if necessary. Just make it through boot first.

Before you go to basic training you'll go back through MEPS for a follow-up medical review. Don't try to BS your way past the doctors at MEPS because they know better. It would be best to postpone your training than to go through with an injury that could get worse.
