The one easy over the counter remedy... paracetamol. I was in hospital for quite a while and it is so annoying to have the room next to the "Pan room" or whatever it was, sleep was impossible. I am not into medication etc but ended up up asking for some after a few days and they just gave me a 500mg paracetamol- it did the trick. I asked one of the day nurses and she said that its a hassle to get prescriptions from the Doc's so they just give people panadol as it makes them tired and sleepy. I have had a few really stressful weeks of late and I couldnt sleep because my head was spinning with thoughts about what was going on.. so out came the panadol and it does wonders.
BUT keep in mind that panadol is nonetheless a medication and if you are taking medication for other things see the doctor and get proper sleeping pills. Ps milk particularly warm milk also is a good sedative/sleep inducer my elderly aunty had trouble sleeping and now she always hots up a mug of milk before bed time.. I stayed there once and had to have the compulsory mug of hot milk and It did make me feel really sleepy.

Try a loud fan (box fans work wonders). If that doesn't do the trick, you might consider getting some audio books. I used to have the same problem with my internal monologue, but when I listen to the books (works best on very low volume) I don't think, I just pay attention to the story. Good luck!

I think you should be kids. Kids should be kids. Stay up if you want. Christmas is a special day, and I don't blame you for being excited! I have trouble falling asleep too! It's because your mind is thinking about the joys of Xmas (like presents), which gets you excited, therefore..it keeps you awake. No matter what you do, you can't speed up time, and make Christmas come sooner. Do something thay calms you down, like reading, or listening to calm music. But it's okay to stay up and be excited! :)

a glass of warm milk systematically tensing and relaxing body parts ...chanting the same mantra or turning on the TV to a boring broadcast sometimes works for me . last but not least as
a physician once prescribed when my internal clock went awry a couple Benedrils... now they are over the counter .they will leave you drowsy when you wake but once you get back in time you should no longer need them.Hope that helps easy on the benedril a couple is usually max and more can keep you awake .

Put on some soothing music (classical works best), and really listen to it. Let the music push all the other thoughts out of your mind, then you'll become relaxed and more likely to sleep.
