Catholics are catholic christians -- in other words, catholic to the rule of the church (look up 'catholic' as a non-denominational definition if you don't know what I'm saying).
Christians comprise Catholics, both Roman and Greek, and lots and lots of Protestants (yep, protestors, protesting the rule of the Catholic church).
So the next time you are in a quandry about whether or not Catholics are Christian, just walk inside a Catholic church and look at who's hanging on the crucifix and ask yourself: "Is that Jesus Christ, or Papa frickin' Smurf there?".
Here endeth the lesson.

First of all let me say that to be a Christian you have to believe that Christ died to wash away your sins and did raise again on the third day. The Catholics believe this and it is the bases of the church. When you ask a non Catholic if they are a Christian they will say yes and sometimes they will also say what religion they are. A Catholic only has to say that they are a Catholic because of that fact if the bases of the religion.
I can not agree with you on this point because where I am from we also have Anglican schools and Seven-day Adventist school. When the church is mention the parents are aware of the fundamental rules in the schools before they read the actual rules of the institution.
Catholics have a few believes that other denominations do not have or follow, and confession to a priest is only one. Another is to pray for a dead person’s soul, it is believed that it will help the soul to pass from Purgatory into Heaven. I am sorry to admit that I am delinquent in going to Confession but all Catholic Churches do have them and you may go just before a mass or an appointment can be made. Confessions do not have to make in a closed box with a partition between the Priest and the confessor.
I am sorry to say that I do not know the exact reasons why the kill of new Christians were done but many wars were committed in the name of religion and it does not make it right.
I don’t see why some one would be upset about you asking questions, that is how we all learn. I hope I was helpful to you.

When people ask me what religion I am I always answer that I am a Christian, but I live in Italy, so I suppose it is quite different in the States
Confession: This is not the word anymore, at least in Italian and for the Catholic Church, the new word is 'riconciliazione' in Italian, which means tomake peace, could it be Reconciliation? Anyhow it was some time ago :-)
Juanita: sorry Catholics pray Christ as well, Holy Mary is a kind of bridge to heaven

Being a Catholic myself I understand your feelings and I also believe that you already know the answers for all your questions. Big guys, or big religions always take advantage on those who appear to be small. Catholic Church has done a lot of mistakes, because it is ruled by men. Still, I've met very, very nice priests and nuns and of course the late Pope John Paul the Second was a great Pope who looked for a closer relationship with the rest of the Christians and other Religions. Sleep well.

The Protestant church was created by Henry 8Th because he wanted a divorce and catholics pray to Jesus first we just have great respect for his mother also how many other churches celebrate the last supper (Holy Communion) Most of our Saints came from being feed to the lions or tortured so I think you will find that the Christians and the Catholics in Roman days were the same.

Interesting question...
Well first off, Catholics are Christians. They are the first Christians, they believe in Jesus Christ, therefore they are Christians. People who belong to other Christian sects do not prescribe to the Catholic faith, and the teachings of the Catholic Church, so they would refer to all religious activities as Christian, and not Catholic. I hope that's clear.
I'm confused on your question concerning the killing of Christians by Catholics, when Christianity was new. When, Christianity was new, all Christians were Catholic. It wasn't until 1517 when there was a major division in Christianity. So were Catholics trying to kill other Catholics? Or are you referring to the Inquisition when non - Catholics were tortured, and killed as heretics?
I'm sure there are many books out there that can explain the subject way better than myself. Good luck in your quest for answers.

Catholics are christian. Most Protestant religions came from the catholic church. They may do some things differently because of traditions they have but basic truths are the same.

Anyone who believes Jesus Christ is our Lord God and redeemer is a Christian, and that certainly includes Catholics, who are the original Christians.
Because the Catholic Church is the source of all the Christian denominations, it retains a distinctive name, creed, and faith tradition, which in some ways, sets it apart from the other 31,000 plus, protestant Christian groups.
And since the Catholic Church is a world-wide Church, and the word Catholic actually means "universal", those who call themselves Catholic declare their membership in the only universal Christian church, as well as the only church that Jesus Christ ever personally founded and authorized.
The Catholic Church enjoys all the promises and blessings of God, his full and complete revelation ... including the scriptures ... divinely mandated teaching authority, valid sacraments, perfect and practical worship, and the real presence of Jesus Christ, himself.
It's clearly labeled in order to set it apart from other Christian groups, which subscribe to some, but not all of the above.
When it comes to your personal salvation, it's good to know exactly what you're getting.
A wise person would accept no substitutes.

Between Catholics and other Christians, each side considers that the other has lost the path. Neither side has a stellar record when it comes to human rights, but the Catholics did the worst genocide before the 20th century, with an estimated 250,000 killed in wars, crusades, inquisition, auto-da-fe, and numerous other atrocities.

the reason is simply because catholics are very proud of their religion and because they also believe they are real christians therefore, they are proud of being who they are 'catholics' on the other way round catholics are meant to lead the way for other christians who are just coming into the christian faith so as not to confuse being a catholic to being a christian. catholics to go catholic school for the simple reason of keeping the doctrines and laws that guides the catholic belief which other bible schools cannot keep or instruct. catholics do go to confessions frequently because it is their obligation in which they believe in as to ask for forgivess from God through the man appointed by God himself. in a nut shell, a christian is a catholic and a catholic is also a christian, so nothing is to be confused between these two notions. and moreover catholics are not so wicked as to try to kill any christian in the name of religion, because they abide by the injuctions of Jesus who is the head of the church. i hope and i presume that with these few anwsers of mine provided from my best of knowledge, that i have been able to provoke your mind to believe who and what catholics are in real life.
