Been there, Done that, And I live across the county from my mother. The truth is you will always love your mother no matter what that is just how it is. You can dislike her forever though. I didn't talk to my mother for almost 1 year. Then it hit me what if she dies what would I do. So I called her. She still doesn't have my number nor knows where I live. Of course she has tried to get it and has gotten mad but it is my life I am old enough to do with it what I see fit for my peace of mind. I think you should feel the same way.

Do you still live with her? I agree that little distance would be a good thing. At 23 it's time for you to have some space. Across country might be overkill.
No one would expect you to agree with her politics, but you've got to expect that she'll have an opinion. And while you're at home, you're going to be smothered with it.
Don't overdo things here. Mom will be getting much smarter in about 7 years.

I have a son who is going to be 27. We were BEST friends while he was growing up. Then, he met the love of his life while at college. Now, he can't talk to me. I have tried everything to be part of their lives and it always gets twisted around. Your Mom may be "overprotecting" due to fears that she has in losing you, because you are getting older. Have you tried just sitting her down and gently talking to her about her being overprotecting? You should NEVER tell her you don't like her. No matter how bad of a mother she may have been, she chose to give you life and I promise, she did give up some things she wold have liked to had to raise you. I hope that down deep you do love her, maybe just don't like some of her ways. Just tell her that in order for you 2 to continue to be "close", she needs to give you space to breath and the freedom to make your own choices.
PLEASE, don't ever give up on your Mother. My heart has been broke for 6 years and it has literally changed who I was. No one will ever love you as unconditionally as your Mom.

I think it's very sad. You dont always have to agree with her on issues & it seems she loves you very much.
I am a mother & I know if my child said he didnt love me i would just die.
Mothers arent perfect we carry our children...spend our lives raising & protecting them.
We can't just stop on your 18th Birthday..that love & wanting to protect you is built into us from the moment we become pregnant.
Give mom a break hun, she really means well.
Talk to her & just tell her she needs to let you grow up but that you will always need her.
Because it's true a child no matter the age always needs their parents.

Don't tell your mother you don't love her.. It hurts mother.. Esp your mother.. Your mother's overprotective because she loves you so much.. Don't break her heart.. Maybe it's better if you say that you dont like her... I also agree, you should move out..

As you say, you are 23... :)
You don't have to say anything......you wouldn't "like" hurting her, even if you don't love her (the same thing with the other women relationships in your life).
