Only one thing comes to mind, making a person think that it is love for control. You are right and you did good!!

Love is a lie, or at least lying by omission. When people don't have the vocabulary or gull to express their feelings, love is one of those convenient cliches they use. I'm glad you finally got out of a abusive relationship. There is no good reason to stay with someone who beats you. And I hope that relationship taught you that the word "love" is essentially meaningless and untrustworthy. If love is the only word you can use to express your emotions, then you need to buy a thesaurus or a word-a-day calender.

insecurity maybe?
they say they love you because they know that love is a strong word, and once you say it, a person feels as if they need you and thats what happened to you. he used you and the love to make you think that even though he did bad things to you, you couldnt leave him because he really truly "loved" you. its never good in situations like that because they make you feel as if you're worthless about yourself, ESPECIALLY when they're being abusive because you always wonder what you did wrong and if you deserve their "love".
some idiots tend to say alot of bullshit just so they can make a person fall for them and when they've fallen in so deep, they just stab you right where it hurts. sometimes they do it because they need someone to vent on, or because they dont want to take the lame themselves so they put it on someone else (bring you).. you have to be really careful with people like that.. they can hurt you ALOT (and you probably already know how that feels..)
you cant always trust a person when they say love you.. some are true but others just say it for show or because they want a trophy girl.
take care =)

well, people with anger problems love too. but it's not a safe relationship so youre good to be out of it. he needs to learn how not to cause injury to another person thru his frustrations or whatever he may have blamed for his physical abuse. the last person to teach this problem is the partner. move on and hope he gets help. peace

Yes baby!! You seem to ALMOST have it!!! It most certainly is NOT love. And, they say it, because they hope you are stupid in love enough, to let them continue to abuse you. What they say, is of NO importance!!!! It's what they DO, and how they make you FEEL, that matters! Good for you girl!! STAY AWAY from any man that shows the signs!!!! And I'm sure you know what the signs are.

You were in love with the idea of loving him. The reality destroyed that possibility. Lying to yourself about love can be devastating as it keeps you so deep in the hole that you are reluctant to stop digging. Fortunately, you got out and deserve high 5's. Good for you

Smart choice. It's essentially a paradox that one who loves u would abuse u. Stay out of it.

Just Forget and Move On.
U R right its not love if u intentionally hurt.
my experience says do not lie, let your love accept you with all the history you have and believe me if its true love they will...
