I would like t o know why everyone wants you to take your child to the ER at 3am.Your child is 5 years old and is very unlikely to fit(which is the worry of a high temp) unless there is a history of this in the past.(once a febrile fitter, more likely next time. She could become delirious and hallucinate with a temp though,so you do need to get it down. I tylenol is not helping try ibobrufen. you need to get the warm clothes off her, they are retaining heat and making the temp go up more. She needs to get into a lukewarm shower or bath and cool down quickly that way.The water is probably going ot feel freezing to her because she is so hot,but she needs to do this. then cover her with a light sheet. If she is still shivering you will have to cover her with soemthing till she stops and then remove it.It sounds like she has a virus or infection of some sort to have rigors with a temp and tylenol not helping.Get her to the doctor to see what is up as soon as you can.if she scares you in any other way, then get her to the ER. You can always ring the Er dept and see what the nurses there tell you.

Well, I know that when my fever is beginning to break, my teeth chatter. I would call the doctor, they usually have an answering service. You should ask someone to go to Walgreens, CVS...and get you a thermometer. Take some layers off. The tylenol should work within an hour of giving it. If you've waited that long, then try Motrin. If you are the least bit unsure about her safety, take her to the ER. I'm sorry you are going through this. It sucks when your child is not feeling well. Hope she's better soon! Keep giving her fluids!

YOU NEED TO TAKE HER TO THE ER RIGHT NOW!!! Being really hot but freezing means sickness and if she feels really hot, she has a high fever. (a little hot but doubtful of fever is usually only 100 or less.) Especially if she is chattering, you really need to get her checked out! if you don't have a car call 911 and get an ambulance to pick you up! you don't want to risk waiting and something really really terrible happening!! better to be safe than sorry!!

My kids often had high fevers. Try taking some of the clothing off and covering only in a lite blanket or sheet. My Dr explained that socks and thick clothes retain heat and by removing some or replacing with lighter clothes it helps to lower fevers but if she is still real hot I would not wait to take her in to the Er.

Tylenol doesn't work for high fevers that my son gets. You should try some Ibuprofen (Motrin). Also try calling the pediatrician's number anyway. A lot of peds have an After Hours number. If neither of these work then I would take her to the ER just to be safe.

Take her to the emergency room. Also Ibuprofen is much better about breaking a fever. And as smelly as it is a warm vinegar bath brings down fevers to.......maybe for the next time she gets a fever, but this time I would be high tailing to the ER

Go to the ER!!!! That's what it's there for. Don't be concerned with what they'll charge you or how you'll pay. Your child's health is more important than that. If it's enough to worry you at 3am, you at least need to ease your own mind by seeking a doctor's advice/expertise....even if it turns out to be a common fever and goes away on it's own. Just go.

Take her to the Emergency department. It could be something serious, it's better to be safe than sorry - even if it is 3am. A bit of inconvenience is very worth it for peace of mind. Good luck with your little girl.
