Our female Siberian Husky is old. She has always been an outside dog. She will not stay still when I let her in the house. She paces in the house and she will only lay down on the grass outside or in her dog house and a few other places in the yard.

When I let her in from the cold at night she will not lay down anywhere. I don't want to lock her in at night, she has never been an inside dog. I guess I just wish she would get to enjoy some comfort inside in her old age.
We had two dogs but we had to put him down last month. I know she doesn't have her warm buddy to sleep with anymore.

BTW, We live in east county San Diego. It's not usually cold here at all. But it has been the past few weeks.
Do you have any suggestions on what to do here?
I want to make the rest of her life comfortable.

Petco or PetSmart will have electric pads to put in her dog house. this will give her the warmth for her old bones, yet allow her to be where she is comfortable.

Older dogs really love to sleep on the heating pads, as it soothes arthritis.

It is really possible she is depressed from losing her buddy, it's amazing how deeply dogs feel.
Does she enjoy getting pet or scratched on her belly? Can you try to do her favorite things while being inside?
Like chetco said, they do make heat pads. That might add to her comfort but I don't know if you can make her an indoor dog since she seems happy outside.
Next time you get a dog, get a small breed that loves being in your lap, but for now, keep trying to show your dog you love it, she will know and can sense it.
Good luck, and I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your other dog.

When I was a kid I wanted so much for my dog to come inside and be with me, but she loved the outdoors and twenty minutes was all she could stand.
Some dogs just simply do not like to be confined indoors. Huskies, as you know, love colder weather. Let her enjoy the cooler temperatures as they are made for the cold. She probably slept close to "her buddy" because they were buddies and liked being close.
Try letting her enjoy the cold temps, she will let you know if she wants to come in or not.

My sons Husky would pace inside my house when I baby sat her as she preferred to be outside and was missing her owners too.

I agree with chetco but if you would still prefer the old girl inside you need to show her that it is a good experience. Lay down with her and pat and talk to her, give her small treats etc. Start with leaving the door open, when it is warm enough, and that way she will feel that she can come and go at will. Eventually with pampering she will feel comfortable walking in and settling down

well i see you are a good pet parent. i know you are trying to keep your dog warm but she has a fur coat that is plenty warm for her. it isnt like you are kicking your dog out in sub zero temperatures. and after all she doesnt want to be inside because she has never been an inside dog. she may have lost her friend but she seems to be ok.. if she is waking up stiff and sore she just needs some joint relief medication..talk to your vet. and if she wants to come in she will.. i have a newfoundlander and when she wants in ( she sleeps in the house everynight) she tells me.

If she isn't use to coming inside she won't settle and bringing her in only makes her anxious.
Buy her a jacket or coat.
Put lots of warm blankets in her kennel and an electric blanket designed for animals (work by pressure so when animal isn;t in kennel it won't heat up and cause a fire) or put a hot water bottle or wheat pack in there for her to snuggle up to with the added warmth.

you could try to put a blanket in her dog house. that way after awhile her scent will be on it and when you bring her in she'll recognize it and lay on it. she's so antsy because she's not used to being inside. part of it also has to due with the fact that her companion is no longer there with her. good luck.

Have you considered getting another dog? Maybe that will make life more interesting for her. I am sure you plan to have other dogs in the future anyway.

Get a fake grass carpet and put it at the foot of your bed.
