artshow.com is a fairly good list of competitions.I have made a few great contacts through this.Also,you ought to check out a copy of the Artist's Market at the local library for a great list of potential markets from card companies to magazines and newspapers that pay for your art.I've also sold a bunch of cartoons,illustrations etc. using this.Most bookstores have it but it's free to use at the library.

I don't know about cash prizes but you should join this site where they have contests all the time. If you post your work here you will be a winner (contest or not) because thousands of people will see it and you can sell your work here. Check it out!
