Ask yourself this question instead: if this girl was gorgeous and available, wouldn't you totally want to be more than friends?
The truth is, you don't find her attractive, she probably finds you attractive, and that's really what it boils down to. If she was hot, you would totally want to hook up with her and then you probably wouldn't understand either why she's not interested when you have all these things in common (if she turned you down because she doesn't think you're good looking).
It's just a sad reality of life. Often times the people you're attracted to are not attracted to you and vice versa.

Your question should be why do "some" girls not understand. We're not all the same. I'm perfectly happy being friends with a guy.

Because most guys will hook up with anything between the lines of severely anorexic and morbidly obese. The girls are just playing the odds. I guy that will turn down the opportunity to hook up is an anomaly, and thus unexpected.

maybe it's because some guys make the girls think that they want something more and then when the girl is ready and also wants something more guys say that they only want friendship.

For the same reasons some guys don't. Either the message is too subtle or they just don't want to hear it.
