I would imagine Jesus meant it if He said those words, but I would also like to know what verse that came from, just to put things in context.....Jesus said many things that upset the local and current church, and not the government (which was under Roman rule at the time.) Jesus did not like the way the church was conducting itself and told them about it, even going so far as to disrupt their sunday services one time....(read about it, it was about how the church was selling tithes at the front door, and Jesus set all of the sacrifices, or animals, free to roam around.) Jesus was very dynamic, and our current culture would consider Him a rebel towards what is "politically correct" these days. Jesus did not care about being "Politically correct", since people know that what they are doing is wrong, but since other people have made laws that tell them that what they are doing isn't necessarily wrong because some lawyer was able to pass it by a judge, then that makes it not wrong. I could go on and on, and I'm sure you have seen the headlines about someone that sued some company because it didn't specifically say that when on cruise control, an RV cant drive itself when the driver went to the bathroom.....lol, but the guy won. This country is a mess, and I would bet Jesus would say a lot more than your question has about our country now.

when you see everlasting fire it means only eternal destruction. this referres to the effect of the fire and not its duration. how do we know? we are given sodom and gomorra as an example of everlasting or eternal fire. we can walk on the ruins of the cities of sodom and gomorrah. they are not burning for a literal eternity, but the effect of them being burned lasted forever. it is a problem with the translation into english. religeon had it wrong and are to proud to change it back. in fact in the old testament God forbade passing anyone through fire of any sort or sacraficing any one. God thought it was disgusting to pass anyone through the fire. So fire represents eternal destruction, not eternal flames. If the human sould is imortal and lasts forever, then why is there the need to resurrect someone who is still alive and in heaven?

He really means it. Here's who receives that sentence:

Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Mat 25:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
Mat 25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
Mat 25:44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
Mat 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of the least of these, ye did [it] not to me.
Mat 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

why do people have a problem with jesus cursing them and sending them to hell. why do you think you deserve something good from God after ignoring Him, living for yourself, breaking His law (which He set in the world HE created). if you've repented be thankful for everlasting life and dont take it for granted

The question you should really ask is "did Jesus really say that to begin with"? Not everything in it is to be taken to heart. So who said what and when I think is really a mystery in my opinion.

I don't think he's serious. He taught love and understanding and whomsoever believeth in me (him) will be saved or something like that.

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever -Revelation 20:10
And yes, he means it.

The first mention of hell in the Bible is allegorical, and simply refers to the valley outside of Jerusalem where trash was burned.

As for your passage, I don't think he's bluffing...
