My son is 2 years and 4 months old. He wears underwear so when he needs to make a poo, he tells me so i have to put him on a nappy. If he sees the poo in the nappy, he pukes. If i put him on the toilet to make a poo, he pukes. I try to sing, i run the water, i talk to him, but he still pukes. What can i do??Is it normal?

Its the smell that puts him off.Even if something smells outside the house, he picks it up easily, especially when i cook fish. But he only pukes with the smell of poo.

He's GROSSED-OUT!!! Aren't you? Just Kidding. He is PROBABLY "pushing too hard!" Encourage him to "relax" and take his time! Don't push so hard! Poor baby...=(

It really might be something to do with his age, My 2 year old tells me when he poo's by waving his hands in the air and holding his nose. Its very cute but he hates the smell thats why he does it. So maybe when you are two you are just starting to really understand what smells are good and what ones are bad. I would ask a doctor about your son's problem tho because he cant go thru life puking every time he poo's.

This is not normal, and I suggest you ask your pediatrician about it.

In the meantime, you might want to look up some information about Sensory Integration Disorder (aka Sensory Processing Disorder), where it relates to smells.
This is a neurological disorder where the brain has a hard time processing one or more of the following sensory signals: such as sight, sounds, touch, taste, or smell. The person may be oversensitive to the signals or undersensitive.

Here are some symptoms relating to smell:

HYPERSENSITIVITY TO SMELLS (over-responsive):
__ reacts negatively to, or dislikes smells which do not usually bother, or get noticed, by other people
__ tells other people (or talks about) how bad or funny they smell
__ refuses to eat certain foods because of their smell
__ offended and/or nauseated by bathroom odors or personal hygiene smells
__ bothered/irritated by smell of perfume or cologne
__ bothered by household or cooking smells
__ may refuse to play at someone's house because of the way it smells
__ decides whether he/she likes someone or some place by the way it smells

It sounds like it might be relevant. There are also other symptoms for other senses.

I am guessing here, Usually when ppl says baby or child puke its either something they eat or their tummy got air!! So i guess when he is pushing too hard the air might cause him to puke. Alternate better check with the doc on the safe side. Remember to check the puke if got anything like blood..

I feel your pain my son did the same thing. He has a very acute sense of smell. we gave him a mask to wear when he poops, it worked. He is now 7 if only I could get him to wipe his own butt.

maybe he is straining too hard? Try to get him to relax maybe even rubbing is stomach while he is trying to go may help.
