Which book are you talking about? This could be true of a lot of books. And not necessarily the Bible, either. If you read the Bible you will discover (gasp) that it says:
I have overcome the World -John 16:33
Anyone who is a learned Christian knows this: it is a plan for everybody. You will also see that it addresses all your concerns.
I am not filthy, greedy or selfish anymore, PRAISE GOD!

So without any laws or morality, you'd be what, perfect?
Answerable to no one?
You can only run so many stop lights before THAT theory is disproved.
You can't take away the Law just by pointing at a 'book'. The Law and the curse of sin is on your head DESPITE your belief or lack thereof. You are still going to die.
Face it, you are POWERLESS over the effects and fallout from your imperfection. You will NEVER see God or be a part of anything LIGHT without some kind of MIRACLE!
Ahh, but it has been DONE FOR YOU!
Receive it,believe it OR NOT - doesn't change what has ALREADY been done.

Woo hoo, is there some angst going on there or what?

You need to get out more and turn off the news. You're getting very bitter.

Cynicism can be healthy, but not when it turns into bitterness.

Public schools have been churning out socialism and relativism for so long, it's created what you see around you.

It wasn't always like that. This used to be a decent place, but lately it's becoming a cesspool.

When morality goes, civility isn't far behind.

Maybe we're just collectively depressed. It can happen if living conditions become too crowded.
The family unit is under attack, and so, in this way, children grow up without guidance, even for the simplest of things. Consider those children are grown up now, self-centered and unable to function correctly within society because they've not had their needs met, and their wants overly compensated for.

Disaster soup.

However, the people I've met are generous and kind to a fault. They are like monoliths of human ideals. Perhaps its me, but those around me are kind of like, you know, super or something, and I love them with all my heart.

I assume you too, are human, and are included in your description of humans. My faith is based on God and His word.
You can call it stupid if you so desire.
What do you believe, or have faith in?
Is it stupid also, or is it OK because that's what you think?

no. You have to have faith in human potential not in a book. Faith in love and understanding. Martin Luther King Jr. , Jesus, Susan B. Anthony, Gandhi, Winston Churchill, FDR. What do they all have in common? They had faith... not necessarily in a alien super-natural being but in there cause... Making the future a better place for all.

Yea, I suppose we're selfish, I suppose we don't see or help people in need, I suppose we degrade our environment and the planet as a whole...So, the real question is: what can we say in our defense ?
Well, I suppose no one has come to this world willingly, we were all forced to life, were we not ? Our behavior is therefore just a consequence, we could say, our vengeance to stupid destiny that created us...enjoy it !!!

The bible says our righteousness is as filthy rags. And it also says no one seeks God, not anyone.
