It's not a sickness as much as a nervous habit, like smoking, picking at cuticles or blemishes unconsciously, twisting a ring or a curl of hair, etc.
The best way to break yourself of the habit is to subsitute something for biting your nails. Get a smooth stone, put it in your pocket and rub it when you feel nervous or bored.
If you're female, get a manicure and have the technician teach you how to keep your nails polished and pretty. When you spend money on your nails, you're a LOT less likely to ruin the manicure by biting and picking at them!
Another method is to limit your nailbiting to one nail only. After a few weeks, make a deal with yourself to stop biting that last nail and reward yourself handsomely when you have not bitten that last nail for a month.
Good luck... nail biting's one of the more difficult personal bad habits to break, similar to smoking because it involves your mouth. You will need to set small goals and work hard at it.

This is not a sickness it's a habit. Maybe when you're nervous or restless. Do something like, write a poem, lyrics for a music, draw or paint, just be creative. I have the same habit but, I got over it by my needlepoint and practice my typing. To keep your mind out of your nerve. I hope I solve your problem.
